My first triathlon.

My first triathlon.

I swam 300 meters. I biked 20k. Then I ran 5k. And I had an absolute blast.

I’ve always been just a runner, but when training for my April marathon with some running clubs, I was peer-pressured into trying a triathlon (joking). I borrowed a friend’s bike and went riding short distances twice just to get used to it and only went to a local pool three times in preparation.

My goal was to make it to the finish line and challenge myself in new ways. I knew the running would be easy for me, but the swim and bike ride were extremely challenging. For a dude who hasn’t swam in much other than hotel pools and hasn’t been on a bike in over a decade, I’m proud of myself. I think I’ve caught the bug and I’m already looking toward the next one.

Running will continue to be my main priority and my biggest goals will likely still be found in my running shoes. However, I’m planning to use cycling and swimming as cross-training much more often and jump into triathlon world. Who knows where that will lead…

Now back to The Nations Run Club tonight.
