Easing back in is hard

Easing back in is hard

I was pretty bummed for a while because I twisted my ankle pretty bad on a trail run. Kind of had my head down for a while and was taking it really easy, trying to heal. Now I’m feeling almost back to normal, but just fragile enough to still need to take it easy. Which is hard. I want to go run 20+ miles as I’m writing this, but that’s a terrible idea. Easing back in is hard because it’s the opposite of what you want to do. When you know you’re capable of so much more, it’s hard to put the limiter on. But I have to keep my eyes on a lifetime of running and not just today or this week.

My yearly goal is 1500 miles, which I was on target for. I’m still planning to hit 1500 this year, but the next few months will have to see some of my highest mileage ever. I’m ready, but easing back in is hard.
